We are seeking to immediately fill the position of a

Curator (Botany, living collections) (m/w/d)

with 50 % at the Botanischer Garten München-Nymphenburg (BGM), part of the Staatliche Naturwissenschaftliche Sammlungen Bayerns (SNSB).

We are looking for an excellent scientist with a focus on the systematics, function (biological traits and adaptations), or evolution of plants, with a research focus on living collections. The collections at BGM comprise several thousand living specimens of about 19.000 species, among them especially rich holdings of Araceae and Orchidaceae. The main focus of research of the applicant should be on living collections and might incorporate fieldwork, genomic methods, or research on domestication, breeding, pollination biology, or symbiosis.

Required is an academic education with a botanical focus including a Ph.D., expertise in botanical systematics and fluent knowledge of German and English. Preferred candidates have knowledge in modern methodologies (morphological or molecular techniques, imaging, data-basing) and have experience with large living collections. We expect high-level papers and an interest in engaging with the public and with the societies associated with our house. The successful candidate will have, or be willing to acquire expertise concerning species protection and the role of our living collection in public education in general.

The salary will be at the EG 13 and the position will initially be filled until 31 Jan. 2021, with permanent employment possible thereafter.
